Preparing for winter

The last couple of weekends have involved preparing the bees for the winter. Essentially this means:
  • Checking the amount of winter honey store
  • Checking the state of the frames and boxes
  • Inspecting the health of the brood, ensuring no AFB, varroa or other nasties
  • Reducing the number of available brood boxes if appropriate
  • Putting in varroa treatment, in our case using Apivar
Yesterday was the turn of the four hives at Hawkswood Place and I took a series of videos and photos.
